Charles Bukowski lived in the US, more specifically, in L.A's suburb. He worked in many jobs, because he didn't stay much time on them. He worked enough to earn money to pay for drinks and cheap rooms. He was an unsociable man, he didn't like people. He thought that they were boring and false. He wasn't a handsome man. Since when he was a boy, he had scars on his face and this fact caused marks on his soul. The only partners that he liked were books and beers. He smoked a lot too. Althoug he seemed a rude man, he wasn't. When I read his books, I can feel tenderness.
"I never thought of myself as a loner. I like to be by myself. I am the best way to entertainment that I can find." Charles Bukowski
Charles Bukowski was a child afflicted with an extremely frustrated and authoritarian father, who decided his problems beating him.
ResponderExcluirFamily problems and the humiliation of having a deformed face, helped Bukowski to discover two things for helping him to make his life bearable: Alcohol and books.
He began writing at 15 years, but his first work was published only 20 years later, because many of his works were considered obscene. Working this image of drunken bum and obscene, Bukowski was able to create a myth around him.
In Brazil, Nelson Rodrigues, has a very similar path, although a different family story. Because his works also were originally considered obscene and immoral, although of he didn´t get the same recognition as Bukowski.
I have a very interesting Bukowski biography, but it's in Fortaleza. My mother is going to visit me this year and I will ask her to bring it here to Porto Alegre. I'm going to lend it to you. I think you'll like it.
ResponderExcluirAnd Nelson Rodrigues is also fantastic, as João mentioned. But, of course, not as "indecent" as Buk. Have you ever read anything by him?
